The book picks up right where it left off! Both Carl and Donut needed to pick their race and class, and I could not wait to see what they would pick. I knew their race would most likely be human and cat, but their classes surprised me completely, and I love the open direction they chose for Donut and am glad Carl is focusing on explosives rather than his punches and kicks. Despite the premise of the book being exactly the same, they managed to still keep things interesting on the 3rd floor with the addition of other crawlers, elites, settlements, quests, and even a new addition to the party.

The book is also slowly building up our side characters and developing the world behind the scenes, which is shaping up to be an interesting background plot that is constantly feeding the main plot in interesting ways. Carl and Donut continue to solve their problems in interesting ways and also cause a lot of havoc along the way. This floor in particular is linked to the 6th and 9th, and I’m interested to see how it’s going to shape up, and also excited for the return of the elf elite. We even have a couple of romantic avenues for Carl, which could be an interesting side plot in its own.

The book does a really good job of keeping you interested almost constantly and leaving off on a note that makes you want to pick up the next book in the series. It sounds like the next one might be something Mad Max-based on the comments Odette made at the end, and I am excited to see what antics my two favorite crawlers are up to next. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make my way to a bookstore for a hot minute, so I may pick up one of the other books I bought the other day, so next book nook will be a break from our Dungeon Crawler Carl

I would give Carl’s Doomsday Scenario a 9/10
