Mammoth Caves National Park!
Vanlife Day 187!!! Mammoth Caves National Park is home to the longest cave system in the world! At 426 miles of caves, it is double the next longest cave system found in Mexico. Started off the day above ground checking out a pond on the way to the visitor center! The visitor center had a fun walk-through exhibit featuring the cave’s history and general info. Super fun to check out while I waited for my tour start time! I have always wanted to do a cave tour via lantern light, so that’s what I did! It was so cool!!! We hiked 3 miles through the cave with 8 lanterns being our only light source! I loved it, and the park rangers had a lot to talk about! After, I checked out a nearby sinkhole where one of the underground rivers can be found before it pours underground. Tons of cool rock features and unique plants!

My plant focus is the Mock Strawberry or Potentilla indica. They are actually edible, although not typically eaten because they are mostly tasteless or bitter! They grow upright unlike normal strawberries. They grow yellow flowers. When I first saw it I didnt think it was going to be a strawberry. Its always cool to find edible plants in the wild!
See ya round! Cheers!
