Some travel and getting comfy in my hiking boots again with a hike up to Moore Creek Falls! Short hike but a cool fall! It was good to get back in the groove and see some cool plants (and a slug). Hiking in the spring just hits different! Had a blast and got an amazing view from the top of the mountains where I camped out! The sunset really set the tone!
My plant focus has got to be the Mountain Doghobble or Leucothoe fontanesiana, which grows those cool bundles of flowers known as racemes. They are found in the SE US and are actually poisonous to dogs, cats, and horses! They like wet areas, which makes a lot of sense for the falls! They often bloom in spring, and their leaves turn bronze in the winter.
