New Orleans!
Spent a whole day in New Orleans! Walked down Bourbon Street, listened to all sorts of street music, watched the steamboat come in, ate my weight in beignets, rode the trolley, ate some gator bites, the whole kit and kaboodle. New Orleans felt like a place overflowing with culture and community. Usually, the big cities start to wear on me after a little bit of time, but New Orleans truly felt different, and I would come back to explore, given the chance. But Atlas and I like to keep moving, so we headed north for a swamp tour!

After my tour, I had enough time to do a hike as we crossed over into Florida for one of the prettiest sunset hikes I’ve done in a hot minute! Tarkiln Bayou was stunning with the orange colors of sunset, and I practically had the whole trail and dock to myself. I spent a long time just listening to the bugs and critters sing their songs and even found a cool bug hanging out by the dock! He is a giant leaf-footed bug! They use their hind legs for all sorts of stuff, hiding, defense, and males even squeeze other males with those legs when competing for mates. They eat juices from fruits, seeds, and stems.

The swamp tour was a blast. It was a bit cold, so I wasn’t optimistic about seeing a ton of critters, but boy did we! Gators, turtles, birds, snakes, the swamp had it all. It was a lot of fun, and my tour guide knew a lot about the swamp and taught me a lot about the people who reside there.
This world has so many cool little plants and critters. Stay tuned for more in Florida!
