Taste of Cherry was a movie recommended to me on TikTok. It was praised for its deep, riveting story and was hailed as a gritty masterpiece. It’s a foreign film starring a man named Mr. Badii who wanders around the hills of Tehran trying to find someone who will bury him after he commits suicide. He eventually finds 3 different individuals, each with their own views and perspectives on life and Mr. Badii’s mission.

Personally, I see what this movie was going for, but it just didn’t hit home for me. Maybe it’s because my head is warped from the stimulation of modern society, but the pacing, dialogue, and cinematography were all just boring and uninteresting. I fell asleep twice trying to watch this movie, as there are multiple long sections where it just shows a car driving through the hills. I also feel like I have watched movies with similar messages that were conveyed more deeply. This movie felt to me like one that someone with a film major would drool over, but it just doesn’t hit home for the average Joe.
