Saguaro National Park Day 1
1 of the 2 days I spent in Saguaro National Park! So many cacti! This is the kind of desert I enjoy! Ones with many plants to peruse! It has been wacky being this hot in the middle of winter. I am definitely a man of 4 seasons. The heat never stopped. I love hoodies too much for this kind of weather all year round. The park was great, with tons of public land for camping nearby! It’s so quiet and open out there that you can often hear things from town.

My plant focus, of course, has got to be the star of the park! The Saguaro Cactus, or Carnegiea gigantea, is it! The cactus can grow up to 40ft tall! They are massive, and I have seen quite a few monsters out on the trails! It is native to the Sonoran Desert, and its blossoms are Arizona’s state flower. Many desert critters use them for shelter and food, and well over 100 critters, including humans, have used their fruits as well.
