Petrified Forest National Park
Now, I am not much of a geologist, so I didn’t spend a whole lot of time in Petrified Forest National Park. For me personally, once I saw one log/rock, I kinda felt like I had seen them all. Still neat to see and learn about, though, and a good intro to the Arizona deserts! This was probably the wildest place I have been to thus far. I had to completely mute my videos; it was so loud!

The Badlands portion of the park, which I almost enjoyed more, reminded me of the John Day Fossil Beds, which are closer to home! But I also got to see some petroglyphs and the occasional desert planet, including this post’s plant spotlight:

Cylindropuntia imbricata, or the cane cholla, is a kind of cactus that can be found in cooler climates than other cacti and includes the southwest US and Mexico. They can grow quite tall and start to look like shrubs. They grow 2 kinds of stems 1 for flowers and the other for support that stays on the cactus. They can spread by the animals that consume their fruit or when sections fall off and take root.
