Death Valley National Park
Started off strong with a hike through some scenic slot canyons! The hike was super fun, with no set path; it required a lot of pathfinding, and I ended up making the sketchiest jump of my whole trip, jumping down from one of the canyon walls! Had to psyche myself up and everything lol. No injuries 😏

After making it to the end of the slot canyons, I ran barefoot through the sand dunes, saying hello to all sorts of little bugs! Even made a sand angel, no pictures though, since it didn’t turn out good haha. It had recently rained, too, so there were some fun mud puddles to walk through. Ended the day with a walk through the visitor’s center and some views of the badlands!

My plant focus is on one of the coolest cacti I have ever seen: the Cotton Top Cactus (Homalocephala polycephala). A barrel cactus native to the US and Mexico that grows in clusters. Despite being able to grow in some of the harshest conditions, it can be hard to cultivate. Its flowers resemble cotton, which gives it its name; birds like to use it for nesting, and the plants spread their seeds. I really like the cage of needles it makes around itself!
