Pinnacles National Park
Spent all day on one hike and boy was it a good one! Did a long hike around Pinnacles National Park! Went from cool rocky canyons to caves, to a respiratory, to the foothills, to a bit of rock scrambling! This trail had a little bit of everything and was so pretty! The moss and residual rain made the beginning 10/10, and then it was nice and sunny for the hike up to the rocks. I could not ask for a better hike!

This park is known for its conservation efforts for the California Condor, but I didn’t get to see any during my hike. No matter, there were lots of other cool birds and litter friends to enjoy! Not only that, but lots of moss. Plants and even a rad mushroom!

For my plant focus, I chose another fern! This time, the Giant Chain Fern (Woodwardia fimbriata), which is actually North America’s largest fern! Growing 3 to 8 ft tall! It has “sori” ( a structure that produces spores) on the back of its leaves, like many other ferns that form neat rows, where the plant gets its name from. Native Americans would use the fibers from this plant’s stems to decorate baskets. After seeing the same ferns all the way down the coast, it was refreshing to see this guy on the trail!
I almost missed Pinacles National Park and was super glad I circled back. I am really excited for my next post, where I got to kayak in the caves of the Channel Islands! π
