Spent the whole day at Point Reyes National Seashore! The first thing we did was go to the Cypress tree tunnel, which was neat! Led up to an old radio building with some history. After that, we went to Drake Beach and found the coolest little caterpillar! Then we went down to Chimney Rock and Elephant Seal Overlook for some hiking, and even got to bump into a friendly badger! The seals were a blast to listen to as they howled at each other! The lighthouse was a bit foggy to see through, which was a bummer. Did you know Point Reyes is the 2nd foggiest place in North America? Thought that was a cool, fun fact.

We ended or day by hitting up a neat little sandwich shop for some awesome grub before hitting the road and finding a awesome scenic spot for the night.

Our plant of focus has got to be the Cypress! The Monterey Cypress, or Hesperocyparis macrocarpa, is a California native and a glacial relict, meaning it was a species common in the Northern Hemisphere before the onset of glaciation way back when. They can grow up to 130ft tall and take on their shape from the wind, which is common where they are naturally grown. They can be invasive but are often used as windbreaks along shorelines, like the ones in the Cypress tree tunnel, which was planted in the 1930s.
