Glass Beach!
Swooping on down from the Redwoods we stayed coastal! Our target set for Glass Beach! A beach famous for it abundance of sea glass! We took and windy but oh so pretty road to the coast and bumped into a couple of nomads willing to share a cup of coffee with me! Turns out we were both going to Glass beach! Crazy!

I stopped a few times along the coast to enjoy all the wacky sea plants and eventually got to Glass beach where I got so distracted by the tides pools I didn’t even get to the Glass beach part until the end of the day haha! There were so many little crabs, snails, stars, urchins and even sea squirrels you name it! The Glass was super cools its was everywhere! It was really fun to just run your hands through it and your hands would be covered in colorful Glass! So so so cool!

My plant of focus has got to be what I call Ocean fingers! They are actually called Sour fig or Ice Plant (Carpobrotus edulis). It is an invasive plant introduced in the 50s along railways, intended to help with land erosion, but it actually worsens it. The plant is native to South Africa and has edible fruits and leaves. The fruit is very tart and often used to make jelly. The leaves are bitter and are not usually eaten, but can be used for sore throats and to treat skin ailments. (Please do your own research before consuming or using wacky plants. I am not an expert, thanks.) I thought they were really cool, though they were everywhere at Glass Beach!
