Now I am a massive fan of Embark Studios. I played a whole lot of The Finals when it released, and I have had Arc Raiders on my radar for quite some time. I was a little worried when they changed the game from a co-op raid-style game to an extraction shooter, but after playing the beta, I started coming around. After playing the game for a few weeks now, I can say it’s a solid 8/10!

Graphically the game looks great and runs well! The vibes of old tech mashing with future is one of my favorite aesthetics ( I am looking at you Fallout!) And the game nails the retro in just the right way that scratches all my itches. Gameplay is smooth with nice and quick raids with good balance on loot and player count, in the beginning there were even lots of friendly players although I feel like its shifted a bit from that now. The gun play is one of my favorite things, all the guns feel pretty balanced with low tier options being viable options even against better geared players if you play smart.

My only gripe with the game is after playing for time, and maybe this is just a problem with the genre for me. The game play is getting just a tad repetitive. With only a handful of maps and robots to fight I am finding myself just doing a rinse and repeat. I feel like now that people have had the time to explore the game and complete their quests all that is left is PvP. This is fine and dandy but I also think the PvP will only go so far for me as well.

I am hopeful that the team will keep pumping out great content, and this game will prosper going forward, but we will see. Overall, a great game though, can’t wait to see what Embark Studio does next!
