This was the big Redwood day! We spent all day hiking the James Irwin trail, which was my longest hike yet! The prize at the end of the hike? Nothing less than the world-famous Fern Canyon! The Fern Canyon was everything I wanted it to be! It was so cool, and because it was off-season, I practically had the whole thing to myself!

There were so many cool things on this hike! Starting with little guys!!!!!! I was soooo glad I found a banana slug! They are just the coolest, but not only that, I was lucky enough to bump into a freaking handsome frog! The Redwoods are like stepping into another world; the trees are just giant, and they are everywhere!
After my long hike, I had the privilege of camping right on the beach at an excellent campground where I wound down to the crashing of waves! Not before grabbing some fantastic photos!

My plant focus for this post has got to be the Redwoods. There are 3 subspecies of “redwood”: the one seen in these forests, the sequoias, and another species found in China. This species holds the record not only for the tallest but also for the largest tree. Hyperion is the tallest, standing 380 ft, and is bigger than Big Ben. The largest is General Sherman, a sequoia with the most mass. These trees can live for 1,000s of years and are only found in California and Southern Oregon. They are considered endangered due to the small population.
Another National Park down! Next up, Glass Beach and lots and lots of tide pools!
