Redwoods!
The first half of the day was my first day in the Redwoods! The drive was incredible, but the hike was 100 times better! The forest was so lush, and the weather was perfect! The Grove of Titans trail was the ideal introduction to the Redwoods.
The trees were massive, and the area was so lush with soooo many mushrooms! Not many people on the trails, but enough to help me get some incredible photos of myself! I’m tiny compared to the trees, it’s crazy!

My plant of focus is Xylaria hypoxylon, or the candlestick fungus, as you can see in the last photo. Really cool BIOLUMINESCENT fungus. I have no clue how it glows, but I wish I knew that when I found it, because that is so cool. It often grows on hardwoods and helps decompose the wood! It’s not poisonous, but it’s considered inedible due to its toughness and unpleasant taste. The ends typically will have asexual spores that help it spread amongst the logs! So cool!
THE FREAKING OCEAN! I. Love. The. Ocean. It was a bit rainy, but we ran down to the beach anyway and got way too wet! But the ocean wanted to play, and play we did! I’ve spent the rest of the day just celebrating the sea! Endert Beach was a blast, so we went to Crescent City, watched the sea lions, and got some AMAZING seafood. Could not have had a better ocean day!
