Goodman Creek Trail
Howdy, everyone, another day, another hike! This time we hit the Goodman Creek Trail! Started just before noon, and the weather was nice! Just the right amount of coolness to hike in a hoodie without sweating. A great PNW hike full of ferns and everything I love about PNW hikes, just the density of plants and mushrooms. This trail follows a river bed which I’m sure is more full than it was earlier in the season. Our goal, though, was the small falls just about in the middle of the trail!
The falls were great, and I spent some time with my tarot cards and eating some trail snacks before heading back, and on my way, I bumped into this extraordinary man named John, who was investigating some mushrooms. John and I got talking for an hour or two about plants and global warming before hiking back together, and he taught me so much about the local trees and plants!

He taught me so much about so many plants, it was hard to pick a plant to learn about, but I ended up choosing the Western Sword Fern! They were literally everywhere on this hike and in the PNW in general! The underside of their leaves has these rows of red dots, I think, that are so cool! The leaves have been used medicinally for their antibacterial properties and to treat infections! They can even grow up to almost 5 ft tall!
After an eventful day, I chose to camp next to Odell Lake, and oh my goodness, was it one of the most jaw-dropping lakes I had ever been to. Just the dark blue vibes as the sun set, I couldn’t walk away, I was the only one in the campground, and it was dead silent. The photos don’t do it justice.
