Hey everybody, and welcome to something new I’m doing on my blog, which is a log of all the media I consume. I often forget some of the things I’ve enjoyed. I would really like a place to log all of those things.

Released: 1954
Director: Gordon Douglas
Staring: James Whitmore, Edmund Gwenn, Joan Weldon, James Arness
IMDb: 7.2 / 10
So, for my first media blog post, I recently watched an old movie on my VHS called Them!, a 1950s movie about giant ants affected by nuclear radiation that grow to massive proportions and was a big movie in the big monster genre. The movie was initially supposed to be in color and in 3D, but the camera they were going to use broke, so they ended up shooting it in black and white. It had been a very long time since I had watched a movie in black and white. Still, it was so cool. I really loved the practical effects in the movie; they even got nominated for an award for their work, which was impressive even to me, given modern-day CGI.

The acting was OK in my opinion, and I found something really odd as I’m starting to watch older movies more often: a lot of the older movies would just kind of end abruptly without tying up loose ends, which gives me a laugh every single time. I won’t spoil too much, but the story follows an investigation into people dying and disappearing under strange circumstances, which leads to the discovery of giant ants that must be eliminated at all costs. If you haven’t seen this movie, I recommend it. I would give it a solid 7.5/10
