Another day another burger! We are trying to make some swift progress on this burger bucket list! This time on the menu we got Cowboy Burger! I am not sure how long they have been around but it SEEMS like one of those burger joints that have been in Boise for a long, long time. This time around we flew in solo after work before heading off to complete some errands. Lets jump right in!
Burger Score: 5

Average! Average! Average! This burger was about as middle of the road as you can get. It’s not bad, but it’s also not amazing. We went with the double bacon cheeseburger to keep things simple. The burger came wrapped on my tray and looked pretty good from the outside. I have definitely seen worse-looking burgers. There was nothing in the presentation that really wowed me. Moving into the flavor and sticking with the theme was a mid-burger with everything you would expect and anticipate, but being a little on the messy side. The shredded lettuce was fresh, and the tomatoes were not crazy crisp but still had some firmness to them. I have probably had this burger many times in my life without really knowing it.
Fries Score: 7.5
Their fries were a little bit of a redeemer. They leaned on the softer side with just the right amount of crispness on the outside, which for sure earned some points in the eyes of this judge. The saltiness was also just about right, and the fries even came with fry sauce, although I didn’t feel the need to use it. It didn’t come with a ton of fries, but it did feel like the perfect amount to fill me up and not feel bad for leaving any in the bag.
Menu Score: 6

Cowboy Burger sticks mostly to burgers and sandwiches, and there aint nothing wrong with that. You come to a place called Cowboy Burger for a burger, and that math checks out. That being said, other than a daily special (which I would be surprised if it changes daily), there wasn’t too much on the menu that stood out, with one or two options being exceptions. They do offer breakfast, which I have heard good things about, and salads and some other finger foods, but other than that, they stick to their guns.
Vibe Score: 6
I went on a Thursday evening just after work, around 6ish, and when I arrived, there was an old couple sitting outside finishing their food, and 1 gentleman inside waiting for his order. Other than that, this place was sitting pretty empty at dinner rush, which gave it a little bit more of a run-down feel to it. Combine this with the dirty tables and decorations that seemed scattered in theme, overall, the restaurant wasn’t a great vibe to spend time eating in. Going outside on a nice day helped a little, but it only got dirtier. I am giving it a 6 because I did have a pleasant interaction with the staff that made my day a bit better, but it sounds like this might not be common based on other reviews.

Price Score: 6.5
The price for just the burger you are looking at around $5, depending on what kind of burger you get, with some of their more special burgers coming in a combo. It did look like they recently made it so the combos cost just a little bit more. With the combo, you’re looking at around $9 to $15, which is about on par for a burger with fries and a drink. The quality for the price is about equal, but I would say they do manage to keep the cost down enough to make it a cheaper place to eat for the quality. All in all ended up spending $18 with a $5 tip for the staff since they made the whole experience for me.
Overall Score: 31 / 50 /// Tier: B
Cowboy Burger had just enough points to keep it in the B tier. That being said, I think you’re better off going to just about any other B Tier place on my list rather than Cowboy Burger. If you are in the area and it’s convenient, or you want to take it to go, then it will be a decent experience and just about what you would expect looking at the place from the outside. I have heard great things about their breakfast options, and it may be worth visiting for that, but I do not see myself coming back to Cowboy Burger in the immediate future.
Thanks for Tuning in!
Cheers,
Chandler
