I have been slacking on my Burger Bucket List, but not to worry we are back with another installment. I plan on making my list a priority that way I can finish it before I leave for my trip. For this trip we headed over to an Idaho classic: Big Bun! Now, Big Bun has been around for a while and they even just opened a new location, which is where I went. Although I have gone to their other location once or twice when I was a kid so Big Bun isn’t new to me by any means. For this trip, I flew solo. I am so used to fast food being a social thing, it was kinda interesting to do this by myself. But without further ado, let’s jump into things!

Burger Score: 7.5
This time around I ended up ordering their most basic burger, which so happened to be a double cheese. I ate in the store so the burger was fresh and didn’t get a chance to roll around in the bag before eating. The presentation was great, its was packaged well with the nice buns 😏. Although with the name Big Bun, I would say the buns were of average size. What I did really like was the fine flour/seeds on the top of the bun I think that was the best part of the burger. After that was the cheese, I find a lot of times burger places use to much cheese and it ends up overpowering the burger. Big Bun did an amazing job at just the right amount of cheese. As for the burger itself I would say its was on par with other burger joints and it was cooked well. All in all the buns and the cheese are what puts Big Bun’s Burger over an average burger.

Fry Score: 5.5
For Big Bun’s fries, you are looking at your average cut for the fry nothing wedgy but not shoestring either. They were nice and crispy and just a touch too salty for my taste. Luckily they throw in a fry sauce with the meal, which helps balance things out. The medium fry came with plenty and was even served in a bowl rather than a bag, which I appreciated. Nothing was wrong with the fries, but nothing was great about them either. I got 3/4 of the way through the fries before I got bored with the flavor and tossed the rest. I would say they are on par with any other burger joint in the valley

Menu Score: 6.5
Big Buns’ menu has a decent amount of burger options with all your typical burger options, with the only outlier being maybe pastrami. They offered a few handheld food options as well, like fish and chips, finger steaks, and chicken strips. In terms of food there wasn’t anything that surprised me. But they more than make up for it with their hand-spun milkshakes. They had just about every flavor under the sun for their milkshakes and other ice cream, including dairy-free options. With their extensive Ice cream menu I decided to bump their menu score to slightly above average.
Vibe: 7
Going to their new location they have the benefit of things feeling new. I ended up eating in a split-off area with tons of windows and garage bay doors that probably open up in the summer. I went around 8 pm on a Tuesday, so things were not crazy busy, and service speed was average. Things were not overly loud outside the occasional order call over the loudspeaker. However, things were a bit dirty and the decorations seemed kind of generic to me. A pleasant enough place to eat, but not somewhere I would dilly-dally or spend more time outside of eating.

Price: 6
For my medium meal, which included the burger, fries, and a drink the total came out to 14.99. I honestly would say this is on the higher side of the average here in the valley. While it’s on the higher side, I would say the quality fits the cost. The amount of food felt just right for the cost, and overall have no complaints in terms of the cost.
Total Score: 32.5 // Rating: B Tier
Big Bun’s burgers are not top of the line, but are definitely better than your average fast food chain. If you are looking for a local joint to mix things up and want to try a place that’s been in the valley for a long time, then Big Bun is an easy choice. I would recommend coming here, especially if you want a sweet treat to go with your food. I would not be surprised if those hand-spun shakes are out of this world. The ice cream might just be worth the trip on its own. The new location is just outside the rev too, and is a good choice for food before a big concert.
